Words of Treasure

Words of Treasure

* Irrigators direct the water,
Fletchers fashion the shaft,
Carpenters bend the wood,
The wise control themselves.
Dhammapada 6.80

* Think not lightly of good, saying, "It will not come to me."
Drop by drop is the water pot filled.
Likewise, the wise one, gathering it little by little,
fills oneself with good.
Dhammapada 9.122

* You are your own master,
you make your future.
Therefore discipline yourself
as a horse-dealer trains a thoroughbred.
Dhammapada 25.380

* Look not to the faults of others,
nor to their omissions and commissions.
But rather look to your own acts,
to what you have done and left undone.
Dhammapada 4.50

* Train yourself in doing good
that lasts and brings happiness.
Cultivate generosity, the life of peace,
and a mind of boundless love.
Itivuttaka 1.22
